Flatbread Dough

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter cut into small pieces (use vegan butter for vegan version)
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 3 cloves garlic minced

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in hot water and minced garlic to form a soft dough. If sticky, add a bit more flour.
  • Transfer to a floured surface, knead for 2–3 minutes until smooth. Cover and rest for 15 minutes.
  • Divide dough into 8 balls. Roll each one out into a thin round or oval flatbread.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook each flatbread 1–2 minutes per side until golden and slightly puffed.
  • Optional: Brush with melted butter or vegan alternative after cooking for extra flavor.

Notes

To make this vegan, simply replace butter with a vegan-friendly option like plant-based margarine or olive oil. Flatbreads can be stored for up to 4 days in the fridge or 1 month in the freezer. Reheat in skillet or oven for best results.
